CAEL is designed for students applying to post-secondary Canadian institutions, therefore quite rigorous in nature. Students are expected to read articles, listen to a lecture and answer questions. A written component of the test asks students to write an essay on an academic topic. The test effectively mimics all parts of the academic setting expectations. Students looking to get ready for this test are typically quite advanced language learners, but need practice in test taking strategies, predictability, and time management. They also look to hone their skills. We prepare students for all parts of this test through teaching grammar and sentence structure, work on vocabulary, and practice to reduce time spent on both academic parts.
